CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE OF INOX

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHY STAINLESS STEEL IS SO SHINY, WHY IT REPELS DIRT AND DOES NOT RUST?

Actually, it is because its chemical composition based on chromium and molybdenum attracts oxygen and passivates the alloy making it harmless to the oxidising powers of the atmosphere.

We call this material 316L steel.

Did you know... The only pure metallic elements that do not suffer from oxidation are Gold and Platinum, but making the handrails of our boats from these elements would be expensive and impractical.

Although stainless steel is wonderful both aesthetically and structurally, it requires a certain amount of maintenance and care so that it remains as good as the first day and does not lose the qualities that make it unique.

NECESSARY CARE

A weekly cleaning with a soft cloth, neutral soap and water is enough to keep it shiny and pleasant to the touch.

Due to the aggressive environment in which boats live, the sea, and the proximity of dry docks and boat maintenance centres to our mooring, it is possible that particles of iron or other materials may remain adhered to our Inox polish and generate rust stains that destroy its shine. For this reason, we recommend an annual professional treatment based on specific acids for Inox that will restore its initial shine.

This treatment must be carried out by a professional qualified to deal with highly corrosive chemical products, so we advise you to ask us for personalised information in order to be able to treat your specific case.

To carry out this maintenance we recommend the following instructions:

CARES
  • Never use metal fibres or steel tools such as knives or razors to remove encrusted dirt.

  • Use specific scouring pads for this material, never clean other types of steel with it, as it could drag particles that oxidise your stainless steel.
